|TITLE:Taken By Surprise EP (Incl. Roman Rauch & Lupo Remixes)|
Austrian imprint J.hruza Records drops ‘Taken By Surprise’ by MOTSA this June, featuring remixes from Roman Rauch and Lupo.
MOTSA aka Valerio Dittrich, originally from the Scottish Highlands, and now based in Vienna, has been slowly developing his infectious production style over several years, meandering between glitchy dance floor orientated beats, and bass driven electronica. Here MOTSA delivers his debut- single for J.hruza Records.
The release opens with the original mix of title track ‘Taken By Surprise’, a modern deep house workout featuring warm, blossoming pad progressions, a gritty saw wave bass hook and soulful, whispering vocal licks, while the structure, as the name would suggest, keeps the listener in a constant state of surprise, with its baroque changes. Roman Rauch steps up to reshape ‘Taken By Surprise’ next, tipping the focus towards a smooth, organic 4/4 aesthetic, Rauch keeps the drums rolling throughout, as soft pads, organ melodies and subtle atmospherics brilliantly meander around them.
Following on the B-Side is ‘Untitled’, this time MOTSA opts for UK Garage flavourings, employing bumpy drums, elongated bass tones and resonant acidic bleeps, alongside evolving chords and dubbed out vocals, again structurally busy with an ever-evolving feel. Lastly to close the single, Lupo remixes ‘Untitled’, taking things in a more refined, ethereal direction, with sparse drum programming, warbling low-end and heavily processed vocals leading the way.
