Dubai’s one28 Recordings returns this June, with James Flavour’s ‘Purple’, backed with a Nick Chacona remix.one28 Recordings was launched out of Dubai, by a collective of DJ’s, Producer’s and Sound Engineers, the labels first two releases tipped its focus towards underground deep house, with Culprit / Night Drive artist Mark Chambers turning in his infectious grooves for the imprint. Here they push forward with James Flavour, who alongside partner Break 3000, rose to fame as Dirt Crew and founded Dirt Crew Recordings in 2004, now one of the leading labels in the house scene.
The release kicks off with the original version of ‘Purple’ which sees Flavour employ his signature shuffling drums alongside bubbling organ lines, warm Rhodes and a hooky saw wave bass carrying the weight of the groove. Subtle automation touches are thrown into the mix throughout with dubbed out delays and expansive reverbs building an intense atmospheric depth, rounding off the original as an understated house cut. Flavour then turns in a ‘Dub Mix’ next for a more stripped, direct approach.
2020Vision, Moodmusic and Falkplatz artist Nick Chacona steps up after to with his ‘Purple Haze Mix’, taking things a little deeper, dropping the tempo and adding an ethereal vibe. Floaty pads, resonant acidic synths and warbling chords create a cosseting vibe and shimmering beauty as expected from the reputable producer.
